Few years back I had gone into a major depression and I preferred hanging out alone and enjoy few cigrattes when I felt lonely. I was a casual smoker and was never addicted to smoking, it was all for fun. But without even realizing it, somehow I got addicted to smoking. Whenever, I was depressed I would go out to some nice and calm place, and smoke a few cigrattes, and yes that few tend to be a pack of ciggrates within 2 - 3 hours. I had landed myself in a very bad position and did not care much.

Why am I sharing this with you? It does not matter how I realized that I was addicted to smoking but what I had to go through to stop my smoking addition. It was bad enough that I was constantly reminded of my badsmoking habits by one of my friends, but the reason I wanted to quit was due to the mere fact that - I had realized what affect it can have in the long term and what affect it was having at that time as well.

I strongly belief that addiction is the worst thing that can happen, whether it be addiction to smoking, addiction to eating, addiction to drink, etc. I hate the fact that something can have any control over my body. One reason for this was that during my earlier childhood I saw my friends father suffer and die due to his alcohol addiction. That left a deep mark in my memory.

Coming back to the point - I had realized that I wanted to quit and I tried everything out there. Including nicotine patch, herbal medication, reading books to control my behavior, etc. But that did not help, as soon as I felt little bit depressed, I would start smoking. I now realize why none of those products worked. Because I was not addicted to nicotine, instead I was addicted due to physchological factor and those damn nicotine patches wasn't going to cure that.
